After starring in the last run of the musical Joseph the Dreamer in 2022, singer and actress Kayla Rivera returns to the stage this year, reprising her role as Asenath, who is Joseph’s wife. The show’s fourth theatrical run also reunites Kayla with Sam Concepcion, who is also returning as Joseph.

During an exclusive interview with PUSH ABS-CBN at the media launch of Gold’s Gym Powered by Metcon at the Venice Grand Canal Mall in Taguig City, Kayla talked about the show’s timely run.

“We’ve done it for three runs na, so this will be our fourth time coming back. I think the first time was the most special for a lot of reasons. But I think also kasi it was right before the pandemic started. So parang it was so timely, this message of hope, this message of keeping the faith when you’re int he darkest of times. Kasi that’s literally what we imparted to our audiences and what we’re taking in as the performers. Literally, it was a week before the pandemic hit. So when the pandemic hit, we remember the message we were spreading which was never look down, just keep the faith and eventually we will come out of these times. So I think that’s what made it so special. And then every time we get to come back, this is a chance from God to us to spread His word to keep the faith, to keep the hope, and the importance of forgiveness and love,” she said.

The multi-talented performer said that those who have not watched the musical yet will enjoy how meaningful it is. “Well I think it’s timely musical. Any time that we get the chance to be reminded of God’s love, you’re reminded of it not just through music but through the acting and the dancing and everything Joseph the Dreamer has. That’s the message talaga. The hard times that Joseph went through despite the betrayals of his brothers. In the end, he still learned to forgive. That love conquered all and even if he went through the hardest of times that he never imagined he would go through, he still kept the faith,” she explained.

The actress also admitted that even those who have caught the show in previous runs will still have reasons to come back, including watching Gary Valenciano who is part of the returning cast.

“Even if you watch it over and over  again, it’s just such a feel good musical. It’s just different when you’re praising God and you’re able to do it through music and just sharing that energy with everyone. For me, even just watching it backstage and just doing the show how many times, I’m moved equally every single time because I think it’s just being reminded of God’s love and His goodness. And just seeing it literally happen in front of your eyes in Joseph’s story, it’s just such a grabe feeling. I guess for those who have already watch it, we do have new cast members joining us this time as well so you might want to see how they take on their roles. Thankfully, we have tito Gary Valenciano joining us once again as Jacob, we have Sam Concepcion as Joseph, and a few others who are new, joining the cast as well,” she shared.

Apart from Joseph the Dreamer, Kayla’s has also been part of major theater productions like Tick..Tick…BOOM!, Beautiful, Side Show, Rock of Ages, The Addams Family, Carrie, Aladdin, and In the Heights. It was her role in Trumpets, Inc., Joseph the Dreamer which won her the ALIW Award for “Best Lead Actress in a Musical in 2022.
