MANILA – The Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) announced on Friday, March 28, the honorees for the 2025 Parangal ng Sining (PNS) as part of the celebration of excellence and innovation in Philippine cinema.

They are the former president and actor Joseph Ejercito Estrada; actress and producer Charo Santos-Concio; actress and director Laurice Guillen, and multi-awarded international filmmaker Lav Diaz as lifetime achievement awardees.

The award-winning actress and producer Judy Ann Santos-Agoncillo is one of the three annual achievement awardees, along with the film, "Iti Mapukpukaw" (The Missing) by Carl Joseph Papa, and "Sunshine" by Antoinette Jadaone.

This year’s awards recognize the living legends and pioneers who continue to shape Filipino filmmaking. The awards ceremony will take place on April 11 at 5 p.m. at Seda Vertis North, Quezon City with Iza Calzado as host.

This year’s theme, 'Ang Mga Higante ng Kasaysayan ng Ating Pelikula: Tradisyon at Ebolusyon,' honors the evolution of Filipino cinema, celebrating both the legends who paved the way and the innovators pushing their boundaries today.

According to FDCP chairman and CEO Jose Javier Reyes, better known as Direk Joey, “This replaced the Ambassadors Night of the previous administration where a greater number of people were given trophies, This time, the FDCP officers get to discuss the possible awardees based on their lifetime contributions to Philippine cinema. Its first year honored the late film and TV producer Lily Monteverde, the actress and politician Vilma Santos, and Nic de Ocampo as the lifetime awardees with annual awardees Dolly de Leon, Soliman Cruz, and Martika Escobar. Last year, lifetime awardees were Nicanor Tiongson, Doy del Mundo, Sagip Pelikula, and Sophia together with Armando Lao.”

When asked if there's a fixed number of recipients, Reyes replied, "No specific number of awardees is identified: it depends on the assessment of the officers then approved by the Board of Trustees."

To complement the awards ceremony, a series of Tribute Screenings will be held at Ayala Malls' Vertis North on April 10 and 12, showcasing the iconic works of the honorees. Featured films include: "Itim" (1976), directed by Mike De Leon, starring Charo Santos-Concio; "Tanging Yaman" (2000), directed by Laurice Guillen; "Ang Babaeng Humayo" (2016), directed by Lav Diaz; and "Sa Kuko ng Agila" (1989), directed by Augusto Buenaventura, starring Joseph Estrada.
