MANILA — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has launched an SMS and email notification system for motorists with traffic violations under the No Contact Apprehension Policy (NCAP).

MMDA chairman Romando Artes said this feature is part of its “May Huli Ka” website that aims to inform motorists real-time about their traffic violations.

Artes assured the public, security features are in place to protect the privacy of motorists.

“Kung ang nagpadala po sa inyo ay may number na naka-indicate sa information ng sender. Fake po yan. Secondly, wala po kayong makikitang link sa text na ipapadala namin to ensure na hindi magagamit itong SMS notification sa scam,” said Artes.

For SMS, the sender is “MMDA_NCAP” and it does not use a cell phone number.

For email, the official sender is “no-reply@mmda.gov.ph”.

The official MMDA text and email notifications do not include any payment links to prevent scams. Both the SMS and email notifications are sent from no-reply senders.

According to Artes, MMDA will be in close coordination with the Land Transportation Office (LTO) since it has the database of all legitimate drivers in its Land Transportation Management System (LTMS) portal.

LTO executive director Atty. Greg Pua told ABS-CBN News, LTMS portal is secure to protect data privacy of all registered motorists.

“Sa driver’s license meron talaga yan…bago kayo makagawa ng portal meron email…some meron ding mga cellphone…Hindi po yan na-a-access ng kahit sino,”

Pua said, it will sign an agreement with MMDA soon to share its database for smoother implementation of SMS and email notification to NCAP violators.
