MANILA -- Boyzone frontman Ronan Keating is excited to fly back to the Philippines for his solo concert in Cebu on February 12, at the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino.

ABS-CBN News caught up with Keating as he shared his excitement to be reunited with his Filipino fans.

“It's very different, my performance, I guess, on my own,” said Keating, as he shared details of his upcoming solo show with a smile.

“You know, I put a load of Boyzone music in there, too, because the Boyzone are no more. So when I stand on stage, I guess I carry the flag for Boyzone. And I, you know, I put all the fan favorites in there. So you've got No Matter What and, you know, Baby, Can I Hold You and Words. Those songs are there.”

While reminiscing on the group’s prime years, Keating said that Asia played an important role in the early success of Boyzone, and also him as a solo artist.

“We spent our formative years in Asia. We came out there when I was 17 years old and the welcome that we got and to be to be to to be appreciated like we were. And we learned our craft on the stage in Asia because that's where we went. They love the songs.”

He added, “They were the years that made us who we are. So, you know, for me, I always the territory and all of those individual markets - Manila, Cebu and all across Indonesia and Singapore. And, you know, the love that we were shown and, you know, it fills my heart with joy.”

“And honestly, it's I am where I am today. And I'm the artist I am today because of those years. So thank you.”

NEW BOYZONE DOCUMENTARY

Next week will be the world premiere of the newest Boyzone documentary film entitled ‘No Matter What’. Based on the trailer alone, the docu will talk about the death of Stephen Gately, why the group disbanded and their lives before and after.

“I've actually got goosebumps even talking about it,” Keating said.

“It’s taken two years to make the film. It's been made without without protecting. You know, it's it's very, very raw. It's very emotional. We don't hold back, you know, and there's relationships in the band, and I don't want to ruin anything for anybody, but there's relationships in the band that are not healthy. And all of it comes out in the wash. You get to see and hear everything.”

Keating said Boyzone ‘is not your typical boy band’. He describes their group as ‘a little bit rough and ready but very honest’. People will be surprised on what they will learn about the group when they see the film.

“Our story is not an easy one. Losing Stephen and the fallout in the band and getting back together again and on the fallout again, like it's been an up and down ride.”

“And I'm excited for people to watch it, but I'm kind of scared and anxious at the same time.”

But now that each of the remaining members have gone to live their lives outside the band, why still bother to unearth the story and re-endure the pain, the struggles together with the success and triumphant stories?

“We're getting older and our story will will fade away with us. So we had to get it off our chests. We have to tell our story. We have to talk about it. And I guess it's something for our children to have and our children's children to have," said Keating.
