SM Entertainment, one of the leading players in the K-pop industry, shared the development in a statement posted on its X (formerly Twitter) account.

"We have recently learned that Taeil has been accused in a criminal case related to a sexual offense," SM said in the statement translated into English by K-pop news website Soompi.

"As we were assessing the facts related to the matter, we recognized the severity of the situation and determined that Taeil can no longer continue his activities with the team (NCT)," it said.

The agency assured that the 30-year-old vocalist was "cooperating fully with the police investigation," adding that additional details would be provided as the case develops.

The singer, whose full name is Moon Tae-il, debuted in 2016 as part of NCT, a boy group with over 20 members divided into various sub-units.
