Emma Corrin, best known for their critically acclaimed portrayal of Princess Diana in "The Crown," is stepping into the Marvel Universe with a bang.

In the upcoming film "Deadpool and Wolverine," Corrin will portray the formidable Cassandra Nova, the evil twin sister of Charles Xavier.

This role marks a significant shift for Corrin, diving into the depths of a character who is as complex as she is powerful.

Emma Corrin shared to ABS-CBN News their excitement about stepping into the shoes of such a unique character.

"When this was pitched to me, what made me say yes was a mixture of things," Corrin revealed. "The chance to work with director Shawn Levy, who I so admire, and the energy and enthusiasm in the way he pitched it, and why they wanted me specifically for it. That really meant a lot."

Corrin couldn’t contain their enthusiasm for the project. "Obviously working with Ryan [Reynolds] and Hugh [Jackman] was a big pull. I was fascinated to play this villain who they wanted to be played in a way that kind of left the villain label to the side and really explored her relationship to her twin brother Charles Xavier. And yeah, create a character who was completely unpredictable."

Working alongside Reynolds and Jackman, iconic in their roles as Deadpool and Wolverine respectively, was an unforgettable experience for Corrin.

"It was incredible. I mean, it was kind of breathtaking at moments. I was completely in awe of their performances and to see them in their suits as well is so surreal," Corrin said. "Your sort of inner child is really screaming. It's an amazing set. They're incredibly gorgeous, welcoming people."

Corrin described the set environment as familial and inclusive. "They invited everyone to be a part of this like a family. And it was a beautiful environment."

The transformation into Cassandra Nova was not without its challenges. "Initially when they said, you know, you're going to be playing this villain, I thought, great. I'm going to be able to finally master some real fight skills, train in combat, do some wild stunts. And actually, you know, my villain's powers are entirely mental. It was the opposite of that," Corrin explained.

Despite not needing physical combat training, Corrin embraced the character's unique traits. "The bald cap was great. That was real, real fun. And the prosthetic fingers as well added a lot to her character."

Being a part of the Marvel Universe is a significant milestone for Corrin. "It's a huge honor to be part of this universe. I mean, the community alone of fans is absolutely breathtaking and a really beautiful thing to be meeting everyone on this press tour and finding out how much these characters and these stories mean to people throughout their whole lives."

Corrin also highlighted the special bond between Reynolds and Jackman, which translates beautifully on screen. "Watching Ryan and Hugh is such a joy. Their bond, rapport, and closeness is so rare and priceless. They're really, really good friends. And I think as much as people, you know, get on well with the people they work with, I think it's rare to find a film born out of that friendship."

While Corrin admitted that they and Cassandra Nova are not very similar, there's an element of empathy in their portrayal. "She's able to sort of be much more direct than I think I would ever dare to be, but I wish I could be," Corrin confessed. "But there are certain elements of her that I think I try to make more vulnerable and try to get the audience to empathize with."
