Hours before the awarding ceremonies of the 17th Asian Film Awards (AFA) last Sunday, Thai actor Win Metawin cannot seem to hide his nervousness on the red carpet. While he had prepared his speech, he was still feeling anxious about accepting the ‘Rising Star’ award from the AFA Academy.

His nerves didn’t get in his way as he successfully delivered his acceptance speech in front of some of Asia’s biggest names in cinema.

Metawin is the very first Thai celebrity recipient of the award in the history of AFA.

The day after, ABS-CBN News sat down with Metawin, who shared how important this award was for his thriving young career.

“It’s very important for me because, actually, it’s the very first award for a movie for me and this award will let me keep on going, keep going on, working hard,” he said.

"Being inspired" is an understatement as Metawin is definitely fired up to do more and be more. His career started in 2020, and four years in, this is not how he envisioned his career would be.

“It’s something that is out of my plan at all. Even in like fashion, like Tiffany & Co, it’s something like dreams come true,” he said.

Started out as a BL (boys' love) actor, Metawin has expanded his popularity not just in digital, television and cinema but also in fashion. He has been spotted attending fashion shows in different cities worldwide. Together with his projects, endorsements and appearances, the Thai actor’s fanbase also continues to grow globally.

“So surprised, I didn’t expect that I’m gonna have fans all around Asia, or all around the world. I just wanna say thank you, for the love and support,” he said.

Metawin is expected to visit Manila again on April 17 to attend the Philippine premiere of his movie with Janella Salvador “Under Parallel Skies.”
