MANILA — After coming out from what she described as the "lowest point" in her life, a braver and stronger Anji Salvacion is prepared to conquer bigger dreams, beginning with the release of her new extended play (EP) "Grit."

In an interview with ABS-CBN News, the Pinoy Big Brother Kumunity winner said the EP encapsulates the most valuable lesson she learned at the time: resilience in the face of adversity.

"Last year was not my greatest year. I was lost, but like a Phoenix, I burned into ashes, I rose from the ashes, and I shined bright," Salvacion said.

"It's not easy to be here. People think it is. It's hard na gaano ka binastos ng ibang tao, sinaktan, you are still here, standing and fighting. I want that message to be conveyed to everyone,"

The Kapamilya singer said "Grit," which officially launches on March 16, is similar to a book.

"Every single song is a chapter. And I saw in the songs a person with indomitable spirit, a person who is not easily brought down or defeated. It also has angst," she explained.

Salvacion came up with the title herself, with "Grit" standing for gratefulness, resilience, integrity and tough.

The six-track package departs from Salvacion's usual romantic and sweet tunes, venturing into a more upbeat, sultry and edgy sound.

"I want them to feel empowered this time," she said.

Recording the EP, Salvacion shared, was a transformative and healing experience.

"I want to make more [music]. That is how fulfilled I am. I want to put out more music out there. 'Yon naging drive ko (That was my drive)," she said.

The EP's key track is titled "You Didn't," which contains a powerful message of self-love — something Salvacion, along with her label Star Pop, made sure would be captured in its music video.

As a way to convey the "art of self-love," Salvacion did drag, an entertainment style that typically involves cross-dressing. She even enlisted the help of popular Filipino drag artist Marina Summers.

"The music video is such a fantasy of mine. Finally, I am able to do my drag queen dream. And it was even directed by Ms. Marina Summers," Salvacion said.

"For me, to be able bring my confidence in the music video was to grasp myself again because I was lost last year and I am so grateful. When I went home on December and went back [during the] new year, I was able to grasp my values again," she said.

Through music, Salvacion hopes to inspire others to reach their goals. "The goal is to be an instrument. To help inspire, dream big, move on, heal, and be empowered. You don't have to be stagnant, to have a mindset to be someone great... Who doesn't want to be someone’s inspiration or anchor?" she said.
