MANILA — It’s not going to be tweeting “charot” jokes any time soon, it appears so, but the highly popular Twitter account bearing the name of Ethel Booba, which the comedian has shockingly disowned, is back online.

This Saturday, the account, which previously had more than 1.6 million followers, returned with a new name, profile picture, cover photo, and a bio that read: “Started as PARODY account until Ethel claimed it as hers on National TV.”

For the uninitiated, the Twitter account was long thought by many to have been Ethel’s —she even endorsed a compilation book based on it— until recently when the comedy star herself dubbed it as “fake.”

In a vlog, she acknowledged that she gave the “fan” who runs the account permission to use her name, but decided to now distance herself after she claimed the “fan” went too far with its political tweets, particularly its criticisms of the Duterte administration.

In its newest post, it was briefly explained that the account was reactivated only to delete previous tweets linking it to Ethel.

A message from the “fan” who runs the account said that the plan is to deactivate it again because some want to take advantage of its massive fanbase.

The full message reads: “Ang parody account na napamahal na sa karamihan ay pansamantalang naka-off air.

“Ito po ay pinrotektahan dahil mayroon pong mga ilan na hindi mabuting loob na nagnanais na gamitin ito para sa kanilang pansariling intensyon.

“Hindi ko na po kailangan sagutin ang mga insulto at paratang ni Ms. Ethel Booba. Mataas po ang respeto ko sa kababaihan at hayaan na lang po natin ang kanyang mga sariling past interviews sa media ang mag-linaw sa lahat.

“Hanggang sa muling pagbabalik ng aliw at katatawanan.”
