Renowned artist Chino Guillermo Tolentino once again showcased his skill in miniature art as he debuted his newest art installation. Titled “Street Street x Art”, he pays homage to two things: works and studios of renowned local artists and the colorful, chaotic streets of the metro. Chino also shares that this collection is something that is close to his heart. He shares, “‘Street x Art’ is my love letter to renowned artists I’ve always looked up to and the chaotic and vibrant city I call home, Metro Manila. They’re totally unrelated themes, but two that are close to my heart.”

When it comes to why he picked miniature art as his signature style, Chino has this to say: “I’ve tried different art mediums my entire life but it is only miniature art that I’ve felt genuine passion for. The challenge of creating miniature versions of actual objects excites me and seeing the results gives me immense joy and satisfaction.”

One standout piece from the collection is 'Aling Nena’s Tambayan'–a piece that encapsulates all the things he loves about miniature art. It boasts his incredible attention to detail and eye for understanding the nuance of Filipino culture. Surprisingly, Chino reveals that even with the level of intricacy the piece demanded, it was actually the quickest one that he made. “‘Aling Nena’s Tambayan’ was the most ambitious and definitely my favorite. I did it in 11 days and finished it two days before the exhibit.” And it looks like he will be continuing to display his love and dedication to this art style. He tells Metro that he will “100% be doing more miniature art in the future”.

When asked how fellow Filipinos can support local art and local artists like him, he had this to say: “Creating art takes time, a lot of resources, materials and years of practice. Please don’t lowball artists!” If you want to view and view and purchase the Street x Art pieces until March 10 at The Crucible Gallery, 4th Level SM Megamall.
