If you’ve never heard of Olivia Reneé, a.k.a. Baby Oliv, then go to Instagram now, search her name, do a quick scroll, and follow, because she’s going to be your next go-to for hair pegs!

The 24-year-old is a DJ and artist by profession. And if that’s not exciting enough, her hobbies include skating, surfing, sewing, and collecting digital cameras. But perhaps the most impressive hobby she has is coloring her own hair. And no, we’re not talking about a cute ash, copper, chestnut, or even auburn color. We’re talking full-on blonde with neon pink and green tips, purple-green-blue curls, maroon balayage, and so much more unique color combos!

Baby Oliv

A College of Fine Arts and Design Painting graduate, it’s not hard to see where her creative roots—that she’s since translated into her beauty looks—come from. Besides citing Pat Cortez and the Gibbs Sisters, as her inspirations, Oliv shares that it was a natural thing for her to love beauty and even fashion as it was part of her childhood, “Growing up, I was always surrounded by very kikay women in my life. I like dressing up, looking cute and feeling confident for myself”.

We spoke with Oliv to know more about her hair inspos, the first time she dyed her hair, and future hair looks she’s yet to try.

Metro.Style: How did you learn how to dye your own hair?

Baby Oliv: Oh man, ever since I saw Paramore’s Hailey William’s hair when I was like 10, that was it for me. I remember buying a 70-Peso box dye to give myself some highlights.

MS: Can you remember the first time you dyed your hair?

BO: The first time I dyed my hair was when I was in first year high school. My parents were out for the night and I did chunky highlights on the nape and behind my ear because I thought I could just tuck it and “hide” it at school. But the teacher saw it, made me dye my hair black the week after! She was a moment though.

MS: What tools/ brands do you usually use?

BO: My current favorite dye brand is Good Dye Young and Lunar Tides!

MS: What or who are some of your major inspirations for creating hair looks?

BO: I usually take inspos from asian hair stylists like Chubechou (@chubechou_705) and May Zi (@mayziwang).

MS: Do you see these looks as a form of self-expression?

BO: It’s my favorite way to express my individuality but sometimes it’s a love-hate relationship. I’ve had colored hair for almost 12 years. I’ve been brunette for a couple of months throughout the years but it’s honestly not giving! Mas bet ko talaga colored hair. It helps me curate the way I feel at the moment.

MS: People really love your hair content on social media. How do you think these platforms have helped you reach people?

BO: It’s been amazing. I’m so happy to find people who share the same love for hair, makeup, and fashion. I often take inspos from my online mutuals! My heart flutters when people tell me I’ve helped them be more confident with their hair and have pushed them to explore different styles! I always say life’s too short to stick to one style.

MS: As good as your dye jobs are on IG, do you by chance have any memorable hair fails?

BO: Most memorable hair fail was probably when I dyed my hair black then tried to bleach it thinking it would lift! My hair just turned gummy. Lesson learned: never dye your hair black if you’re planning to go light after a couple of months!

MS: Any hair care tips you can share to our readers?

BO: I always use coconut and argan oil in my hair. Always use cold water to wash your hair and OLAPLEX!

MS: What are some hair looks you plan to do in the future?

BO: As of the moment I’ve been loving extensions, braids and ponytail look but i’m planning to dye my hair a shade of steel blue with either purple or green dipped tips. It looks amazing with layered cuts!
