One of the most frustrating things if you are a tech-savvy Filipino in 2019 is losing your data signal.

Over the course of a year, from 2018 to 2019, there has been a huge demand for mobile data. Everyone’s dependent on devices for work, keeping up with our relationships and home-life. Wherever you may be, there are always quick fixes to make sure that you stay connected.

1. Remove any obstruction

Did you know that there are certain objects in your home and office that causes you to have poor signal? Aside from mobile tower distance, objects such as metal, refrigerators, building materials and construction, and any magnetic or electric appliances can cause some disruption. A little furniture rearranging and you’re all set.

2. Always make sure your phone is in tip-top shape

Simple things such as updating your phone’s software are vital to your data signal performance There’s a reason why you get alerts from your iPhone and Android devices. They can find the towers to connect to wherever you may be.

3. Disable any service you’re not using

Almost all phones out in the market today have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Near-Field Communication (NFC) and they are one of the reasons why you may be experiencing lags in your data connection. Next time you find a hard time browsing through your favorite social media network, try to disable one or two services at home and see if anything improves.

4. Get a signal booster for your home, office, and car

If any of the previous quick fixes have not been of use, getting yourself a signal booster will improve your phone’s weak signal. The exterior antennas pick up any available cellular signal outside. The best thing about it is that they work with all mobile carriers and devices. It’ll be the best purchase you’ll make especially if you’re in a known area with a faint signal.

Internet and telecoms are the lifeblood of today’s "always on" digital society. Without a cell tower near you, you may find it difficult to get good network connectivity.

To support the increasing data demand of Filipinos, Globe Telecom has entered into a tripartite agreement with ISOC Infrastructure Inc. and Malaysia-based tower giant edotcom to build more cell towers as fast as possible. This makes Globe the first telco to support the common tower initiate of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT).

What does this mean for us Filipinos? We’ll get stronger signals from cell sites and wired broadband builds all over the country. Our signal woes may just be minimal and may be remedied by simple acts such as resetting our phones, or it may altogether soon be a thing of the past.

This agreement with the DICT targets to build at least 50,000 new common towers across the country in the next 7 to 10 years. These common towers will be the foundation of a highly-connected digital economy. Things may be starting to come bright for us Filipinos to stay connected.
