It's a trip down memory lane for Filipino music lovers as former MYX VJ Karel Marquez shares her life as a mother of four and her desire to return to the industry after years on hiatus.

In an episode of Luis Manzano's Luis Listens vlog series, the singer-host shared how her life changed after becoming a wife and a mom.

“My life before was totally different without kids, so imagine having four? It’s not easy, but I try to manage naman. Thank God I have house angels also to help me when I’m working, but I just have to really do balance my time,” Karel said.

Karel has two children, Keiley and Kyler, from her previous relationship. She also has two children with her husband, businessman Sean Fariñas.

Being part of a family of six, the celebrity mom mentioned that she actually wanted to have one more child.

“Actually we kind of planned it, me and my husband, because we have decided na okay four kids na. To be honest, gusto ko pa ng isa para basketball team,” she said. “But I think now that I’m here, I have my family and I’ve been through this and that, ups and downs.”

Her husband also encouraged her to pursue her career once more.

“For me na lang, it’s never too late to start again or go back to what I wanna do,” she added. “Namiss ko yung pag-arte kasi I sing and host (na noon) pero namiss ko (lalo) yung pag-arte.”

Before taking a break from the industry, Karel was part of several shows and films, including MYX, Berks, Mga Anghel na Walang Langit, episodes in Komiks and Maalaala Mo Kaya, La Luna Sangre, Otso-Otso Pamela Mela Wan, Close To You and more.

Although she loved being a mom and a wife to her family, the 37-year-old actress shared some of her ‘what ifs’ and ‘what could have been’ stories, recalling her early times in her career.

“I always say no regrets kasi grabe naman yung kapalit sa akin and sobrang bait ng mga kids ko, but maybe the regret I had was when sabi ng mga directors and ibang producers was my career was already like that (going up) slowly but surely pero parang ganyan. If you don’t stop you will be like this or the next ganiyan, so ayun lang yung regret ko siguro,” she told Luis.

She then expressed how she wanted to do more acting projects now and try doing other roles other than the kontrabida characters she once portrayed.

“Kasi if you know me, like in person, I could be very mahinhin but sometimes when you act you have to be in different emotions. Para siyang art,” she stated.

She went on: “Mas madali ako umiyak… Kahit for once bigyan lang ako ng role na sobrang bait na umiiyak…. Mas hirap (kasi) ako mag-kontrabida kasi I have to modulate my voice, I have to be extra mataray. Bonus na lang na my features pwedeng pang-kontrabida.”

Karel also shared how supportive her family are for her plans of coming back to the industry.

“Okay naman sila. Lahat sila sa bahay they are super supportive,” she remarked.

When asked what her future goals, the actress expressed, “I think right now I’m very content with whatever I have  right now. I couldn’t ask for anything more in terms of the blessings I have in the house, my husband and kids.”

She continued, “In terms of going back to work na lang, so I can provide for my family and save up for my family.”
