According to Mayo Clinic, a pneumothorax happens after air leaks into the space between the lung and chest well which pushes the outside of the lungs and eventually makes it collapse. Some cases can be caused by chest injuries, certain medical procedures, damage from underlying lung disease, or no obvious reason.

SM Entertainment disclosed that Winter went through the procedure. They also assured the public that the surgery went well and that Winter is currently on the road towards recovery.
