Rosé confessed that she was initially hesitant to release "APT."

"APT." is inspired by the Korean drinking game Apartment. It is pronounced as apateu or 아파트 in Korean.

In a video uploaded by Vogue, the singer recalled that she got the inspiration to write the song after playing the drinking game with her team in the recording studio.

"I was like, 'Is this okay that I've written like a song about like a drinking game? Is this too unserious?' And so I like got all of the producers and songwriters to delete the song off of their phones," she said.

After realizing that those who listened to the song became "obsessed" with it, the BLACKPINK member decided to push through on finishing the track.  

On how her collaboration with Bruno Mars came into fruition, Rosé shared: "Last year, Bruno came to perform in Korea, in Seoul and my friends were like, 'Do you wanna go watch a Bruno Mars concert?' And so ever since then I was like, 'Oh my god, I love Bruno Mars, I play his songs all the time.'"

"Fast forward somebody set up a meeting with him and I. And I met him and I was like, I was fangirling so much, and he liked jumped on the song and he had all these like crazy ideas for it," she said.

Rosé released "APT." on October 18.

According to Chart Data, the song gained the biggest debut for a male-female duet on YouTube this year. It achieved more than 25 million views on YouTube on its first day on the platform.  

The track surpassed the previous record set by Taylor Swift and Post Malone's "Fortnight."

"APT." was released following the announcement that Rosé would be dropping her debut solo album titled Rosie on December 6.

"With the support of my dear friends and family, my team, and of course my number ones, I am sat here today excited to announce the date of my album release," the singer posted on October 1.

She shared the inspiration behind the title saying: "Rosie - is the name I allow my friends and family to call me. With this album, I hope you all feel that much closer to me. And yes, it’s a full-length album. DEC 6th. #rosie."
