After first being diagnosed with autoimmune disease in 2018, Kris Aquino flew to the US last May to seek treatment after being diagnosed with a rare condition called Eosinophilic Granulomatosis with Polyangiitis (EGPA). In July, the 51-year-old TV host and actress revealed she had started undergoing chemotherapy treatment.

In a Zoom interview with new non-government organization Banyuhay Aotearoa (or Bagong Anyo ng Buhay) last August 20, Bally Aquino gave an update on her youngest sister’s condition.

“Unfortunately, they’re still trying to give her the right, the correct treatment. She has so many allergies that all the medicines they’ve been trying haven’t been working or maybe they did, but then the side effects they were not too happy about. Because as I said, she has so many allergies, from the food to the plants to medicines.

“But the past days she’s been in good spirits and she says that there are times, because there are times that she was feeling that she was about to give up because she was having such a difficult time. But then when she looks at the pictures of her sons or when she sees them, then she knows that she still has to fight because as you know, Josh is a special boy and Bimb is only 15. So that’s keeping her fighting spirit even stronger. And thanks to your prayers, at least the fighting spirit is still there,” she shared.
“But the past days she’s been in good spirits and she says that there are times, because there are times that she was feeling that she was about to give up because she was having such a difficult time. “She met a new doctor who I think has a team of new doctors that may be able to help her with the new things that have come again. Because when she left, she had two autoimmune diseases. I think now there are four. With all the tests that they do in the US, tests that we don’t have here, maraming naglalabasan pa rin eh. Pero hopefully she’ll get better. She’s not even 90 pounds now, she’s like 85, 86. And for the other treatments that they want to try, she has to put on more weight, she has to get a little bit stronger,” she added.
