Filipino-American tenants rights lawyer Ysabel Jurado has declared victory in a fiery Los Angeles Council District 14 race over incumbent council member Kevin de Leon.

Jurado wrote a statement on Instagram on Friday, saying the council win belongs not just to her but to the community.

"After knocking over 83k doors, mobilizing over 1k volunteers, sending over 8k postcards and registering hundreds of constituents to vote — We won," she said.

"This win is not mine, it belongs to our community," Jurado emphasized, referencing the señoras, titas, youth, single mothers, and the tenants that she said helped with the campaign.

The 35-year-old attorney gained over 33,350 votes as of poll results on Thursday afternoon, advancing her lead against de Leon with 26, 442 votes.

She would be the first Fil-Am to join the city council of America's second largest city.

Jurado also likened her opponent to Trump, saying "Like Trump, our opponent thumbed his nose at the law — from his racist gerrymandering scandal that likely violated the Voting Rights Act... But unlike Trump, his tactics failed."

De Leon drew flak when recordings of his conversation with two other council members surfaced as it included supposed racist remarks and "redistricting" — or redrawing of district maps after the census count each decade. The incumbent councilor previously apologized for the audio leeks and ignored calls for resignation.

Jurado meanwhile vowed on her campaign to bring brand new politics. "For decades, District 14 has been run by men who have betrayed [their] trust".

Once seated, she is eyeing to focus on pushing for affordable housing, attaining public safety through multi-layered approach, and on fighting against gentrification or the influx of wealthy people in a poor area.

"On an election day defined by Democratic losses, we have a message to share with our party: when we center the real needs of voters, we win. Our neighbors in CD-14 have shown that Los Angeles can and will lead the way forward, demonstrating what progressive, anti-Trump leadership looks like in action," she added.
