Miss BTS? Find out How Their Leader RM Stays in Shape

With all members of Bangtan Sonyeondan—or BTS, as we best know them by—now carrying out their mandatory military service, there’s definitely been a void in the space our favorite septet once occupied in real time. One of the most starkly felt absences is that of the band’s seemingly perpetually online leader, rapper, songwriter, producer, and serial art and nature enthusiast Kim Nam-joon aka RM. Ever since the boys started posting to Instagram using their individual accounts, Nam-joon has used his as a literal archive of things and memories he holds dear, giving fans a startlingly intimate look into his life both inside and outside of being a BTS member. Aside from his museum visits, music updates, and travel snippets, the thoughtfully curated landscape of @rkive also plays host to his killer WOD posts.

Not surprising from the man who broke HYBE artist platform Weverse by posting a black-and-white video of himself working out topless, guns, abs, and pecs all in attendance. Ah, our dear leader, always serving—literally and figuratively. So, what does BTS’ tall, tanned, and dimpled charmer do to maintain his broad physique? Plenty.




In All Day, the two-part series he put up on YouTube to promote his album ‘Indigo’, we see Nam-joon head straight to the gym after wrapping up some tasks in his studio. He starts by plotting out his WOD on the infamous whiteboard—which always has fans claiming they’re never going to survive attempting it—before doing some cardio on the treadmill. Early into their debut years, he used to be a lot leaner, but has built and maintained his gorgeous muscle tone over time due to a mix of full body-concentrated HIIT, bodyweight, and strength exercises. Most notable in Nam-joon’s routine are push-ups, pull-ups, and deadlifts, which he posts on his social media account. Oh, and in case you’re wondering, he can pull off a headstand, too.



Outside the gym, Nam-joon leads a mobile lifestyle. When BTS isn’t on break, the members’ scheduled are filled with nearly endless dance practice sessions, which definitely adds to Nam-joon’s overall physical well-being in terms of endurance, stamina, and coordination. He also doesn’t drive, so he gets around by walking and biking, which is one of his go-to activities to clear his head. When he has the time, he goes on outdoor runs and hikes, too. And because he’s currently serving as an active duty soldier, we can be certain he’s doing a lot more physical grunt work as well.

Like the rest of the members, Nam-joon doesn’t seem to be all that strict when it comes to what he eats. It’s safe to say he doesn’t overindulge, though he doesn’t say no to a helping of kalguksu or some samgyeopsal.


While we won’t be getting any workout posts from our leader anytime soon—follow his secondary account @rpwprpwprpwp for updates from the ‘beyond’—we can certainly look back on some of Nam-joon’s posts chronicling how he likes to stay active and showcasing all his hard work, Code Red videos and all.
