Named after the god of the seas, Poseidon Spa’s vibe and ambiance will make you recall your studies about Greek Mythology. The vast area boasts of 11 villas, designed with intricate wall carvings and fountains, with water-surrounded pathways for added drama.

Poseidon’s walkway to the villas

Prior to my appointment, they asked me where I could be picked up along the island’s main road. I was impressed that the van arrived at 4:20 pm on the dot (their pick up time for my 4:30 pm schedule), and was swiftly whisked away to the lush hills of Mount Luho, where Poseidon is located.

Once I arrived, I was greeted by their receptionist and asked me to sit down in the lounge, while she handed me a cup of cold noni fruit juice. She quickly briefed me on the spa package I was soon to enjoy.

Inclusions:

  • Round trip van transfers
  • Noni drink upon arrival
  • Private villa with bubble jacuzzi and pool
  • Banana chips and bottled water
  • Body scrub
  • Full body massage
  • Option to have clothes washed and dried

The receptionist asked if they could “get my blessing” as their spa’s tradition. Intrigued, I said yes. Immediately, my therapist got on one knee, took my right hand and placed it on her forehead. I was pretty surprised, but it shows their commitment to service! They do live up to their claim that their customers will be “treated like kings and queens” in their spa.

I was then led to my private villa. The water surrounding the walkway could surely use some upkeep as it was murky and gray, but I could still see some fish swimming in it. After several steps, I entered my private villa with a bubble jacuzzi and private pool.

I was given 30 minutes to enjoy the amenities all by myself. The water in the pool was cool, overlooking mountain views of the island. There was a carving on the wall with water spewing out of its mouth which makes it a fun spot for picture-taking.

I transferred to my bubble jacuzzi which was a good temperature change from the pool. In contrast, it was warm with hydromassage and headrests. It was a pleasing prerequisite for my noni sugar body scrub, as I started to fully relax in the jacuzzi (highly recommended to play with the fluffy suds, but optional).

Rose, my therapist, knocked on the door to signal me it’s time for my body scrub. I gave her my swimsuit to be dry-cleaned, then rinsed myself off in the shower area. She came back and made me lay face down on the scrubbing bed (they only do the back part of the body for this treatment). The noni fruit and sugar mixture smelled so good, I wanted to taste a bit of it. It had a delicious scent that reminded me of a sweet, local delicacy. It had a nice, relieving sensation as the sugar naturally exfoliated my dead skin cells, while the noni fruit is known to improve skin appearance and elasticity.

After thorough scrubbing, she told me I can do the front part of my body and gave me the remaining scrub concoction. I did so, and then rinsed completely under the rain shower. It was easy to wash off and it revealed a silky-smooth feel on my skin. They provide papaya shampoo, papaya conditioner, and a bar of noni soap so you can enjoy a full shower before the massage.

Rose used unscented virgin coconut oil on my body as she did what felt like a Swedish massage technique on me. I liked medium pressure and she accommodated my request with such expertise and skill. The villa played some soothing background music that can easily make your eyes heavy as your body goes on total relaxation mode. It was satisfyingly calming. She then asked me if I’m okay for a facial massage and of course, I said yes. She used a placenta cream with a sweet floral scent on my face, then proceeded with a combination of long, flowing strokes and targeted pressure to help relieve tension and promote circulation in the skin.

I was about to doze off into dreamland when she told me our 2.5-hour session was done. She waited outside my villa so I could change back into my clothes, then assisted me to the lounge area for their post-massage tea. The van was ready as I finished my drink, and the driver dropped me off at the same spot I was picked up.

Poseidon Spa has been in the island for over a decade with international and local patrons enjoying their services. Their villas offer discounts when availed by couples.
