MANILA -- Decorated setter Jia de Guzman will not play for Creamline in the 2025 AVC Women's Champions League.

Instead, de Guzman will continue to focus on the Denso Airybees' campaign in the 2024-25 season of the SV.League in Japan. Their season ends in May, while the Women's Champions League is scheduled for April 20-27 at the PhilSports Arena.

The development was confirmed by Miguel de Guzman on social media, as he stressed that the Airybees are "working hard to make it to the championship round."

"What we should all be wishing for is [to see] Jia and Denso play until May," he said.

The Airybees currently have a 25-9 record, good for a share of second place in Division 1.

Meanwhile, Creamline reiterated its support for de Guzman's campaign in Japan.

"We want to express our heartfelt support for Jia De Guzman, who's currently under contract with Denso Airybees until May. As Denso gears up for the SVL Championship round, we acknowledge the hard work and dedication of all the players, especially Jia, who truly embodies the spirit of our sport," the team said in a statement.

"Let's unite in supporting Denso and Jia this season, wishing them the best as they pursue their goals."

The Cool Smashers will represent the Philippines in the Women's Champions League along with the Petro Gazz Angels, as announced by Premier Volleyball League (PVL) president and Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) vice president Ricky Palou on Saturday.

While de Guzman is not expected to play, it remains to be seen if Creamline import Erica Staunton will see action as Creamline is still negotiating with the American spiker. The Cool Smashers are said to be "optimistic" about Staunton's inclusion, according to sources with knowledge of the situation.

Staunton helped Creamline win the 2024 Reinforced and Invitational championships as part of that season's Grand Slam.

Creamline is also open to adding two more imports to its squad for the Champions League.

"The Creamline Cool Smashers are excited to be one of two teams representing the Philippines in the 2025 AVC Women's Champions League this April," the team said.

"Our focus at Creamline is on the journey ahead, and we're committed to representing our country with pride in the Champions League. We have faith in our team's strength and determination to make a meaningful impact on the international stage," they added.
