Pinoy fighters safe, ONE Friday Fights 102 canceled after earthquake

MANILA (UPDATED) -- The three Filipino fighters who were supposed to see action at the ONE Friday Fights 102 card are all safe following the earthquake that rocked Myanmar and Thailand on Friday afternoon.

ONE Championship has canceled the event which was supposed to take place on Friday night at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

"We regret to inform you that due to the recent earthquake in Myanmar and its effects on Bangkok, tonight's ONE Friday Fights 102 has been canceled," ONE Championship announced on social media.

"Our thoughts are with everyone affected."

Muay Thai fighter Islay Erika Bomogao, Marwin Quirante and Jean Claude Saclag were all scheduled to see action in the event.

In a Facebook post, Bomogao said she and her team are safe.

"My heart goes out to everyone affected. I'm really hoping that those who need help get it quickly," the 24-year-old said. "Let's all remember to support disaster relief efforts in any way we can."

Per information received by ABS-CBN News, the Quirante camp is also safe, though they felt the tremor in their hotel. Saclag and his team had to evacuate from their hotel but are now safe as well.

The magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit northwest of the city of Sagaing on Friday afternoon at a shallow depth, the United States Geological Survey said. A 6.4-magnitude aftershock hit the same area minutes later.

In Bangkok, a 30-storey building under construction collapsed, trapping 43 workers, police and medics said. -- with Agence France-Presse
