TNT celebrates after emerging triumphant in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup. PBA ImagesMANILA, Philippines – TNT will be embracing a new moniker as the PBA Season 49 Philippines officially commences on Friday.

TNT, which is on a mission to win the season-ending conference to complete a rare grand slam, will be called "Tropang 5G" from now on.

They previously won the Commissioner's Cup and Governors' Cup contests this season.

According to the team, the moniker change was to celebrate the mobile brand's 25th anniversary as well as its back-to-back PBA championships.

"Sobrang saya na maging part ako ng milestone na ito ng TNT," veteran point guard Jayson Castro said in a press release.

"The fans have been with us through the years, from the ups and downs. Lahat ng naa-achieve namin as a team, as an organization, lahat ng panalo namin -- we dedicate talaga to the fans, sa mga KaTropa natin na tinuturing na rin naming second family namin," added Castro, who was there to support the formerly called "Tropang Giga" from the sidelines as they clinched the Commissioner's Cup title at Ginebra's expense.

Castro will be sitting out the rest of PBA Season 49 as he recovers from a patellar tendon injury.

"I feel blessed na mapabilang sa TNT kasi makulay ang history ng team. From the time nina Kuya Asi (Taulava) and Kuya Jimmy (Alapag) during the Mobiline/Talk ‘n Text Phone Pals from the early 2000s, nasubaybayan ko talaga kung paano sinundan ng PBA fans ‘yung team through the years," said TNT forward Calvin Oftana.

"Salamat talaga nang marami kasi andiyan palagi ang mga KaTropa para sumuporta sa amin," he added.
