MANILA (UPDATED) - A low pressure area being monitored by state weather bureau now has a higher chance of turning into a tropical depression, state weather bureau PAGASA said Thursday night.

Pagasa said this could happen as early as late Friday even as the LPA moves over the northern West Philippine Sea.

It will be named "Bising" when it becomes a tropical depression.

PAGASA said as of 8 p.m. Thursday, the low pressure area was located 125 kilometers north northwest of Calayan, Cagayan.

The LPA will bring scattered rains over the northern portions of Ilocos Region, Cordillera, and Cagayan Valley.

Occasional rains will also be experienced over Metro Manila and most of Luzon due to the southwest monsoon or Habagat.

 Flooding and landslides remain likely.
