MANILA, Philippines – Scottie Thompson of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel shared Sunday what keeps him motivated as they moved up 3-2 in the PBA Season 49 Commissioner's Cup Finals.

For the former league MVP, it's all about returning to the mountaintop after years of not winning a PBA championship.

The last time they won was in the 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup.

"Ang tagal na rin naming 'di nakakakuha ng championship, so I just want to give my all [for] this championship, whatever it takes," Thompson said after the match. "Truly inspired sa mga fans, 'no."

They're now on the brink of winning it all after turning back TNT, 73-66, in Game 5 at the Araneta Coliseum.

Thompson's baskets proved pivotal, as it was he who gifted the Gin Kings the driver's seat for good, 67-66.

But he deflected credit, saying those baskets were a result of team play.

"It's just the right play at the right time, siguro. I made shots down the stretch but overall I think it's a team execution. Those guys moving wing side, I think 'yun 'yung key kaya na-open and wala masyado nag-help [defense]," Thompson asserted.
