Filipino para swimmer Ernie Gawilan missed out on the podium of the men's 400-meter freestyle S7 event in the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games.

Gawilan finished sixth in the final on Monday at the La Defense Arena in Paris, France after clocking 5:03.18.

He was 24.48 seconds behind Italy's Federico Bicelli, who won gold with a time of 4:38.70. Ukraine's Andrii Trusov (4:40.17) and Argentina's Inaki Basiloff (4:40.27) completed the podium.

Gawilan had qualified to the final after topping Heat 2 earlier in the day, finishing third among the eight qualifiers.

However, he was slower in the final, and well behind his personal best of 4:54.24 that he set in the 2016 Paralympics in Rio de Janeiro.

This was Gawilan's final event in Paris, after missing out on the finals of the men's 200-meter individual medley SM7 event over the weekend.
