MANILA – Italian coach Angiolino Frigoni has been tapped to call the shots for Alas Pilipinas Men.

Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) president Ramon "Tats" Suzara announced the development Saturday at the sidelines of Volleyball Nations League (VNL) Manila leg.

"We have a new Italian coach. He’s a two-time Olympic coach Frigoni. He’s here to share with us his expertise and to bring our team and elevate their skills next year," said Suzara.

One of Frigoni's recent triumphs was leading the Italian U21 Men’s national team to the Worlds title three years ago.

Alas Men are coming from a 10th place finish in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Men.

Meanwhile, mentor Sergio Veloso will be taking on a new role as director for the junior development, Suzara also said.

"Sergio [Veloso] will now be the director for the junior development so we’re now setting up a junior develpment program," he said.

"Sergio will be in charge in the under 18, under 20, as you know we’re participating the under 18 boys in Bahrain and under 20 women in the AIMAG in Bangkok in November so he’s basically in charge of feeding the senior national team with very young players," he added.
