The Tamaraws improved to 8-1 in the league standings after they outlasted Ateneo de Manila University in a five-setter, 25-20, 20-25, 18-25, 25-18, 15-12, on Thursday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Andrei Delicana starred for the Morayta hitters and put up 19 points, seven receptions, and three digs, while Dryx Saavedra finished with 16 markers and four digs.

Bugaoan eventually hit the match point after his strong kill, but another error which came from a net touch allowed the Blue Eagles to close in again by two, 14-12.

Jian Salarzon was the 5-5 Ateneo’s leading scorer as he had 21 points as well as 27 excellent receptions and three digs, while Ken Batas, Jettlee Gopio, Amil Pacinio, and Ryan Daculan had 17, 13, 12, and 11, respectively for the Katipunan-based squad.
