MANILA, Philippines – Stanley Pringle took charge in the end game as the GlobalPort Batang Pier overhauled a 17-point deficit to stun the Magnolia Hotshots, 83-80, in a PBA preseason game on Thursday at the Claret School Gym in Quezon City.

Pringle had 18 points, 10 assists, five rebounds and two steals for the Batang Pier, while Ryan Arana contributed 16 points. GlobalPort was playing sans superstar guard Terrence Romeo, who is still recovering from a nagging knee injury.

Magnolia led by as much as 17 points, 37-20, early in the second quarter and still held a 42-33 lead at the half. But Pringle sparked a GlobalPort turnaround in the third frame, pouncing on transition opportunities to help trim the lead.

A Kelly Nabong jumper with seven minutes left in the third period put GlobalPort ahead, 46-44, and the two squads exchanged leads from that point on.

Unfortunately for Magnolia, they had no answer for Pringle in the fourth quarter as the stocky guard burned them on multiple fronts. Pringle's alley-oop to rookie teammate Julian Sargent led to a 72-71 GlobalPort lead, and he added a three-pointer of his own for a 74-72 lead with just 4:34 to go.

Aldrech Ramos and Mark Barroca conspired to bring the Hotshots back, with Barroca's jumper at the two-minute mark tying the game at 77.

A Nabong three-pointer – off a pass from Pringle – gave the Batang Pier the lead for good, however. Pringle knocked down a jumper to make it a five-point lead, 82-77, with a minute left, and the Hotshots squandered their chances with Barroca committing a turnover and Ian Sangalang bricking a hook shot.

Ramos' desperation three-pointer with 12 seconds to go, combined with Pringle's split at the line with five seconds left, gave the Hotshots a chance to force overtime. However, Ramos' last-ditch attempt was way off as GlobalPort preserved the win.

Nabong, who has signed a two-year deal with GlobalPort, finished with 14 points. The Batang Pier pounced on 21 turnovers by the Hotshots to score 20 points in transition.

Ramos had 15 points, while Sangalang and Barroca each scored 14 for the Hotshots, who played sans top guards Paul Lee and Jiovani Jalalon.

The scores:

GlobalPort (83) - Pringle 18, Araña 16, Nabong 14, Sargent 9, Grey 8, Guinto 6, Elorde 4, Flores 4, Cahilig 2, Juico 2, Gabayni 0.
