ONE heavyweight champion Brandon Vera has revealed that he will settle in the Philippines to help mixed martial arts (MMA) grow in the country.

The Filipino-American, who was based in US for most of his life, joined an open workout on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Music Hall together with ONE Championship stars “Mugen” Striegl, Team Lakay warriors Eduard Folayang and Joshua Pacio, and the promotion’s vice president Rich Franklin.

“When I made the decision to move to the Philippines, I wasn’t just relocating physically, I was relocating emotionally and spiritually,” said the “Truth.” “This open workout was a good way for me to connect with everyone and I’m looking forward to more events like this.”

Vera wants to set up an MMA school like the one he founded in the US, The Alliance MMA, which is home to some of the best MMA fighters in America.

“I love this country and I really want to give back to the Filipino people and all the fans who have supported me my whole career,” said the Filipino-American who is due to defend his ONE championship title in December.

Franklin, meanwhile, was delighted with the turnout of Filipino fans at the Mall of Asia.

He said Pinoys already know what MMA is about and that it will definitely help in the growth of the sport locally.

“The turnout is always amazing in Manila. The fans are passionate and really know their MMA. It’s always a joy doing any kind of event here. Can’t wait to be back here later this year for another awesome night of fights,” said Franklin.
