Jerwin Ancajas (left) is the new IBF super flyweight champion.

Jerwin Ancajas toppled Puerto Rican champion McJoe Arroyo on Saturday and was crowned as the new IBF super flyweight king at the Philippine Navy Gym in Taguig.

Ancajas overwhelmed the visiting Puerto Rican in 12 rounds to hammer out a unanimous decision before a hometown crowd, according to Rene Bonsubre’s report to Philboxing.

The first six rounds saw a tactical match between the two pugilists until Ancajas stepped on the gas and blasted Arroyo to the ropes a couple of rounds later.

The Puerto Rican was also hurt with several shots to the body, but he rallied in the final two rounds.

Judges saw it 118-109, 117-110 and 115-112, all in favor Ancajas.

The fight was staged by Senator Manny Pacquiao’s MP Promotions after it was postponed when the Puerto Rico card where it was supposed to be featured was scrapped.

Ancajas came in as a huge underdog against Arroyo, who was unbeaten in 17 bouts prior to the bout.

The Filipino now sports a 25-1-1 record after his title win.
