Mick Pennisi, a big man who made a living knocking down long-distance shots, is retiring from professional basketball.

According to a report on Spin.ph, Pennisi, 42, has decided to take care of a poultry business in Thailand, where he is set to fly to before September ends.

Eric Arejola, GlobalPort alternate governor, told PBA reporter Gerry Ramos that team management tried to convince Pennisi to see the season through and try to reach the 5,000-point milestone. But Pennisi, who is 33 points short of that mark, seemed decided on hanging up his jersey for good.

Pennisi made his intentions known after GlobalPort's win over TNT in the PBA Governors' Cup on Friday.

Before his arrival in the PBA in 2000, it was rare to see a PBA player of his size, especially at nearly 7 feet, be comfortable and effective hitting from the outside.

But that skill came in handy when he played for Yeng Guiao with Red Bull and on several editions of the national team that needed somebody who can space the floor on offense and match up well with towering centers on defense.

Pennisi won 3 titles with Red Bull, and 2 for the San Miguel franchise. He also played for Barako Bull, Star, Phoenix and this season for GlobalPort.

He shot to fame in 2012 with the "flop seen 'round the world."
