MANILA, Philippines – (4th UPDATE, CORRECTED) Alaska rookie Jeron Teng and 2 of his former teammates from De La Salle University were wounded in a stabbing incident before dawn on Sunday, police said.

Teng, together with Rain or Shine's Norbert Torres and former La Salle guard Thomas Torres, were walking outside the Early Night Bar at the Bonifacio Global City when they got into a confrontation with 2 suspects at around 2:30 a.m.

The 2 suspects were identified as 40-year-old Filipino-American Edmar Manalo Lacanlale and 37-year-old Willard Balisi. Both were arrested and are still in police custody.

According to initial investigations, the three players were outside the bar when the group of suspects called out to them. The players then supposedly confronted the suspects, leading to a "heated argument" that caused the suspects to punch and stab the victims.

Norbert Torres, 28, sustained stab wounds on his arm, while Thomas Torres, 23, and Teng, 24, were both stabbed in their bodies. The suspects were subsequently arrested by security guards, identified as Teofelio dela Pena and Randy Bermijo.

The players are recovering at the hospital.

"Nasa maayos naman silang sitwasyon habang ang mga suspek nasa custody ng ating mga pulis," said Chief Supt. Guillermo Eleazar, NCRPO Director, in an interview with DZMM.

The Alaska player's elder brother, Jeric Teng, said Jeron suffered a "deep cut" in the back and another wound to his side.

"He was very lucky dahil pwede matamaan ang vital organs pero buti wala. Pero 'yun nga, lahat sila may mga deep cuts," the elder Teng said.

Teng was coming from a PBA Commissioner's Cup game where the Aces defeated GlobalPort, 109-103. He played 22 minutes and scored 8 points in the win.

Norbert Torres also played on Saturday night, scoring 5 points in 17 minutes as Rain or Shine defeated Magnolia, 99-96, in overtime.

Thomas Torres is set to play for Mandaluyong in the MPBL.
