MANILA — The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Thursday there was no hijacking incident on a cargo vessel off Zamboanga Peninsula this week.

The PCG said in a statement its southwestern Mindanao district received a report on Tuesday regarding an alleged "seajacking" of the cargo ship MV Jeselli, which carried 2.5 metric tons of yellow corn and had 17 crew on board including the captain.

Earlier Thursday, PCG's BRP Capones established contact with MV Jeselli and confirmed with the ship's captain and crew that there was "no seajacking incident that transpired involving their vessel."
