After embarking on a new journey in their careers with ABS-CBN and Star Magic, six Kapamilya stars—Donny Pangilinan, Joshua Garcia, Francine Diaz, Melai Cantiveros-Francisco, Sam Milby, and Jake Cuenca—shared their experiences and gratitude for the network that has stood by them through ups and downs. At their recent “Forever Kapamilya” contract signing and media conference, they also conveyed their dreams for future projects and hopes for continuous growth with the network over time.

With the event calling for retrospection and introspection, some of these artists recounted their showbiz experiences, while others mentioned challenging roles they aspire to play.

Now, each shared personal takeaways from their recently sealed “Forever Kapamilya” status. With the event calling for retrospection and introspection, some of these artists recounted their showbiz experiences, while others mentioned challenging roles they aspire to play.
Donny Pangilinan’s last series, Can’t Buy Me Love, was successful; it even spent weeks on the top spot of Netflix Philippines’ list of top TV shows. Donny has showcased his acting chops in every show he’s part of. Now, he’s gearing up for another series, How to Spot a Red Flag, with Belle Mariano. But beyond consistently delivering his best in protagonist characters, Donny also shared his interest in taking on a more challenging role in the future. “What’s interesting is I haven’t played an antagonist role, or even a bad guy villain [before], I think that would be very challenging. That’s also a good thing to really go out of the comfort zone, and to just do something different,” he shared.

During the mediacon, he went on to share the lessons he has gained throughout his career: “Lessons, marami ’yan. Ang isa sa pinag-papasalamat ko dahil marami akong naka-trabaho na veteran actors and actresses. Kasi sila ’yung nagturo sa’kin kung paano dapat makihalubilo sa mga tao, ’di lang basta sa mga artista–importante rin na may relationship ka do’n sa production and do’n sa crew.”

One of the leading young stars today, Francine Diaz, likewise expressed her gratitude to Star Magic for not just being part of her life but also for changing it, and helping her achieve her and her family’s dreams. “Para sa’kin, nu'ng araw na kinuha ako ng Star Magic ay ’yung araw din na nagkaroon ako ng maraming opportunities–na nagbigay sa’kin [ng chance] para matulungan ko ’yung pamilya ko, at ’di ko rin in-expect na kaya ko pala mag-inspire ng ibang tao,” she reflected.

I would say grabe ’yung pag-ikot ng mundo ko nu’ng araw na ’yon,” she recounted.

While the abovementioned artists were asked to talk about their reasons for staying with ABS-CBN, the question for Jake Cuenca was reversed: “If there could be a reason you would leave the network, what would it be?” To which, Jake answered with confidence. “For me, I’m not the type to overstay my welcome. If I feel like I’m not needed or not being utilized anymore, minsan sa’kin pa manggagaling ’yon. But that’s the business world; this is show business, and that’s why we do our best.”
While the abovementioned artists were asked to talk about their reasons for staying with ABS-CBN, the question for Jake Cuenca was reversed: “If there could be a reason you would leave the network, what would it be?” To which, Jake answered with confidence. “For me, I’m not the type to overstay my welcome. You always have to show them something new, and show how good you really are.” And at this point in his career, with almost 24 years of experience, there’s no question about whether Jake is good or not, or whether he is needed in this industry or not; he is great at what he does, and his talent contributes to the entertainment scene.

You always have to show them something new, and show how good you really are.” And at this point in his career, with almost 24 years of experience, there’s no question about whether Jake is good or not, or whether he is needed in this industry or not; he is great at what he does, and his talent contributes to the entertainment scene.
Melai Cantiveros-Francisco also acknowledged the effort and trust that ABS-CBN and Star Magic have placed in her. They help her enhance her skills and showcase her innate talents internationally. “Nu’ng nanalo ako sa AAA, na talaga namang wala nag-expect, kahit naman ako ’di rin nag-expect. Kaya nu’ng nangyari ’yon, talagang na-shock lahat,” she jokingly said, uplifting the mood of the audience.
Melai Cantiveros-Francisco also acknowledged the effort and trust that ABS-CBN and Star Magic have placed in her. It made us proud to see another talent from our country delivering excellence, proving the Kapamilya network’s ability to produce top-tier actors and actresses. “So thank you so much, Lord. ’Di ako mapupunta doon kung hindi sa Kapamilya na binigyan ako ng tiwala at in-expose ako sa lahat ng mga acting and hosting opportunities,” she added.
