Min Yoongi, aka SUGA, is only officially in the last year of his 20’s, international age, but he has already accomplished so much. He has won numerous awards as a BTS member, a solo artist, and as a producer in his own right.

He was also recently tasked to produce the latest version of the iconic Samsung ringtone, “Over The Horizon.” He has over 130 songs attributed to his name under the Korea Music Copyright Association (KOMCA), and, as of March 2022, AgustD's D2 became the first album by a Korean Soloist in Spotify history to surpass 500 million streams!

Despite all the accolades, however, our favorite self-proclaimed homebody has remained humble and down-to-earth. Apart from working, he has said that he spends his spare time at home, most probably sleeping or watching cat videos.

Today, on his birthday, let’s take a look at seven things we love about SUGA:

His tsundere personality - Hard on the outside but soft on the inside, this is one of Suga’s well-known traits with ARMY. He can be quite savage—just try waking him up when he’s sound asleep—but his actions say otherwise. In Festa 2018, V and Jungkook revealed that their Suga Hyung wrote them a long text and ended it by saying “I love you” to both. In “In the Soop,” he also revealed that although he did not love fishing the way Jin does, he usually joins his hyung because Jin loves it. And who can forget his birthday gift to fans in 2014 and 2015? Suga prepared handwritten notes and small gifts to be given to ARMY. There are so many other ways he showed this side of him to other members and ARMY. Just search for “Savage Suga” or “Tsundere Suga” on YouTube. You can thank me later. BTS Official Facebook

His cooking skills - “Bon Voyage,” “Run BTS,” and “In The Soop”—these homegrown shows by BTS have repeatedly shown Suga’s cooking ability, and the many tips and tricks he learned from his brother (a chef). “In The Soop Season 2” also showed how much he had improved in this skill. The way he prepared that pork belly in Episode 4 showed some serious cooking knowledge! I suggest you eat first before watching these shows. Trust me, the food craving while watching is real!@inthesoop_tv on Twitter

His random knowledge - Suga loves to read books and surf the internet. In fact, you can hardly see him without his phone during his breaks. This is probably why he is a walking trove of trivia. Ever heard of the Maginot Line? Suga explained what it was to the audience in between practicing for a music show. Seeing strange objects floating when you wake up? He knows what it’s called! It’s just Myodesopsia, which are basically floaters that move across your field of vision. Want to make onions less sharp? Suga advises to soak them first in water. Taking the youngest member out to drink together in a different country? He suggests Irish Bomb, and proceeds to explain its components and how to drink it. Whatever interest one might have, our resident encyclopedia is sure to have something to contribute to it. BTS Official Facebook

His 'husband material' moments - We’ve already established that Suga can cook, but have you seen his domestic side? This man can not only whip up delicious meals, but he can also sew, assemble furniture, do odd jobs around the house, clean up after himself, and be incredibly organized. He is also an artist (he learned how to paint from his mom), an aspiring architect (wainscotting, anyone?), and an all-around dependable person you can run to when you need help with something, as proven by his fellow BTS members. @bts.bighitofficial

His rap skills - Suga has some serious tongue technology. If you Google the top fastest rappers in Korea, he would usually be part of the top 5. His average rap speed is 9.8 syllables per second, but his fastest was in “Cypher Pt. 2: Triptych,” where he was famously able to do 117 syllables in 4.033 seconds. BTS Official Facebook

His musical genius - Min Yoongi by birth, BTS’ SUGA, AgustD, and by SUGA by profession. These names signify the different roles he takes as a musical genius. As BTS’ SUGA, he raps, performs, composes, produces, writes lyrics, and even sings. This is the persona he is most known for as this is the one we see in concerts, in shows, and in most of the content released by HYBE. He is also AgustD, a solo hip-hop artist with a hardcore rapstyle that showcases his underground rapper influences. So far, he’s had two very successful mixtapes under this belt, “AgustD” and “D-2,” and ARMYs are all eagerly waiting for the release of the next. As a producer, the role he originally applied for when he joined BigHit, he is known as “by SUGA”, and has collaborated with other international and Korean multi-awarded artists like Halsey, JUICE WRLD, Epik High, and IU, to name a few. He can also play instruments, having played the piano, aka his First Love, since he was young. He has also recently learned how to play the guitar and showcases his skills in his Vlives with fans. His words of advice - Suga has a way with words that just comes out as practical yet comforting. He has such a pragmatic outlook in life, and it shows in his lyrics and advice to others as well. His own issues with mental health have allowed him to have realizations on how to approach life. He has been spotted reading psychology books several times and has spoken about it as well in his VLives. Some of his well-known lyrics or quotes are: “One small person can dream the biggest dream, paint the largest picture, and make endless possibilities come true… Take your hands off of what you can’t control, and get your hands on what you can change… The only thing we can control is ourselves. Get your hands on the changes you can make, because your possibilities are limitless.”BTS Official Facebook

- Here are more quotes and inspiring words from SUGA: “Those who don’t have a dream, it’s okay, it’s okay if you don’t have a dream. You just have to be happy.” - New Year Message 2018, BANGTANTV | “I want people to get positive energy from our music. Life is tough, and things don’t always turn out well, but we should be brave and go on with our lives.” - Elle Magazine interviewBTS Official Facebook

Let me tell you with this song

People say the world has changed

Mm-mm-mm-mm

But thankfully between you and me

Nothing's changed

- “Life Goes On,” BTS
