Presented by SAG-AFTRA or Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists, the Screen Actors Guild Awards took place at the Fairmont Century Plaza in Los Angeles, California on February 27, 2023 (PST). The annual film awards honored outstanding and high-caliber talents in film and television.

The ceremony’s headliner went to the hit American absurdist action-adventure film Everything Everywhere All at Once. The night’s frontrunner carried on with cementing its status in the entertainment scene after capturing four colossal awards and reigning supreme as a record-breaking titleholder, bagging the most accolades for a movie.

The project and its cast have prevailed in categories including Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Leading Role, Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Supporting Role, and Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Supporting Role.

Brendan Fraser, who snagged Best Actor for The Whale, had a moment of sentimental flashbacks as he recalled his foundations as a rookie actor. “I will treasure this [award], but never more than what I used to keep in my wallet, which was my SAG card that I earned in 1991,” Brendan said in his speech. “It made me feel like I belonged. We’re actors. We all want to belong to a tribe, and that's when I found where I belonged. And if you told that guy back then that I'd be standing right here right now, I would not have believed you.”

Everything Everywhere All at Once’s Michelle Yeoh, on the other hand, opened up about the representation of Asians in cinema and the global community. “This is not just for me. This is for every little girl that looks like me.” As this year’s Best Actress titleholder was tackling the topic, she teared up a bit, thanking her supporters for giving her a “seat at the table.” As told by Michelle: “We want to be seen; we want to be heard. And tonight, you have shown us that it is possible.”

Similarly, Ke Huy Quan’s Best Supporting Actor win was all worthwhile as his success is not a singular triumph. To him, it was a collective ticket to greater heights. “I was told that if I were to win tonight, I would become the very first Asian actor to win in this category,” greeted the Everything Everywhere All at Once star. “When I heard this, I quickly realized that this moment no longer belongs to just me. It also belongs to everyone who has asked for change.”

Lastly, Best Supporting Actress Jamie Lee Curtis of Everything Everywhere All at Once, who hails from a lineage of actors and actresses, went all-out with the audience. “My parents were actors, and I married an actor. I love actors; I love acting; I love the job we get to do,” she emphasized. “I know you look at me and think, [‘She’s a] nepo[tism] baby, that’s why she’s there,’ and I totally get it. But the truth of the matter is I’m 64 years old, and this is just amazing.”
