A 41-year old Filipina who worked as a live-in caregiver in Hong Kong went missing in Berkeley, California on May 13.

Virgie Baliton traveled to the US last week with her employer, an 80-year old Chinese woman who wanted to see her granddaughter graduate from University of California in Berkeley.

According to authorities looking into the case, Baliton was at a restaurant in Berkeley called Café Strada with her employer’s family, at around 9 a.m. last Saturday, when she excused herself to go to the restroom.

Moments later, she told them the restroom at Café Strada was not available, so she went to look for another restroom outside the restaurant.

Baliton never returned.

Her employer’s family took to social media to ask the public for help in locating her. They said they are worried about Baliton’s safety, especially that she was unfamiliar with the US.

Prior to her job in Hong kong, Baliton lived in the Philippines.

For any information on Baliton or her whereabouts, please contact the UC Berkeley Police Department at (510) 642-6760.
