36 areas face 'danger' heat index

Pedestrians cross an intersection in Makati City. Mark Demayo, ABS-CBN News/File MANILA — Despite the start of rainy season, 36 areas in the Philippines are still facing dangerous heat index levels on Tuesday, June 3, said weather bureau PAGASA.

The town of Guiuan in Eastern Samar is facing the highest heat index level of 47-degrees Celsius.

Five other areas are facing 45-degrees heat index temperatures, including Aparri, Cagayan; Tuguegarao City, Cagayan; ISU Echague, Isabela; Virac (Synop), Catanduanes; and Masbate City, Masbate.

The provinces of Ilocos Region, Abra, Benguet, Zambales, Bataan, Tarlac, and Pampanga are expected to experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to Southwest Monsoon or habagat.

The Intertropical Convergence Zone will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms in Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Sultan Kudarat, South Cotabato, Sarangani, Davao Occidental, and Davao Oriental.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon may also expect partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to habagat. 

The rest of the country will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms caused by localized thunderstorms.
