MANILA — Lightning killed two police officers in a police camp in Naujan, Oriental Mindoro on Wednesday night.

According to a police report, the officers, both assigned to the Regional Mobile Force Battalion Headquarters, were parking their motorcycles when a series of lightning strikes hit the area.

It took more than an hour for a passing police officer to notice the two cops unconcious on the ground.

Other personnel in the camp administered first aid and rushed the victims to the Mindoro Medical Center, but they were pronounced dead on arrival.

Police Brig. Gen. Roger Quesada, regional police director, said the Philippine National Police is committed to providing full assistance, benefits, and honors "to ensure their sacrifices are rightfully recognized and their families supported during this difficult time."

He added: "Their tragic loss is a painful reminder of the silent risks our personnel face in service to the nation."

Quesada said the two cops'"dedication and courage will never be forgotten."
