MANILA — Vice President Sara Duterte voted Monday morning in her family's bailiwick Davao City.

Duterte cast her vote at the Daniel R. Aguinaldo National High School for the midterm elections that could decide her political future.

At the homestretch of the campaign, Duterte admitted that introducing "unknown" senatorial candidates to voters in a short span of time was the "challenge" for her in this year’s campaign.

In the days leading to the May 12 elections, Duterte repeatedly urged voters to choose candidates based on their track records, and not on their family names and their ability to charm the public with song and dance numbers during sorties.

Only 2 out of the 10 Duterte-backed senatorial aspirants are reelectionists, while the 8 others are political neophytes. 

Five members of the Duterte clan are running in this year's elections, including detained former President Rodrigo Duterte, who faces crimes against humanity charge before the International Criminal Court for his drug war.
