MANILA -- The Zamboanga International Airport is not closed, the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said Monday.

This, as claims circulated that the airport is closed for repairs.

"While infrastructure projects, including runway rehabilitation and terminal expansion, are currently in progress, there are no plans to suspend airport operations," CAAP stressed.

The agency said any scheduled repairs or maintenance work at the Zamboanga air transport hub will be communicated through its official channels.

"We urge passengers and the public to rely on CAAP’s official platforms for accurate flight schedules and airport status updates," it added.

The agency also condemned the dissemination of false information, as it causes unnecessary panic and disrupts travel plans.

"The circulation of unverified claims is both irresponsible and detrimental to public confidence," it stressed.

The Zamboanga International Airport did not report any major damage after a magnitude 5.4 earthquake shook Zamboanga del Norte last week.

No significant structural damage was reported at critical airport facilities, but there were visible cracks on the walls and ceilings of the ZIA Passenger Terminal Building.
