MANILA — Nothing could be more painful than what a father feels after the tragic fate of his only daughter in a fatal accident at NAIA Terminal 1 on Sunday morning.

“Anak ko 'yan! Anak ko 'yan!” cried Mark Masongsong over and over as police and security guards tried to calm him down at the airport.

Mark’s daughter was one of the two people who died in the accident. The four-year-old child was barely recognizable due to the extent of her injuries.

Just minutes before the tragedy, Mark gave his only daughter a tight hug, a kiss, and said goodbye before entering the airport departure area to return abroad for work.

When Mark received the call from his relative, he quickly rushed out of the airport's departure area—and there his world collapsed when he saw his daughter's body.

According to Randy Balog, a relative of the victims, Mark’s three-week vacation was the longest time he had ever spent with his daughter.

“'Yung bata ngayon pa lamang nakasama ng tatay. Bago siya sumakay maliit pa yung bata, wala pang malay, eh ngayon nangyari sa hindi inaasahan pangyayari ay talagang napakahirap tanggapin,” said Balog.

The child’s mother, Cynthia, is still in critical condition. She was transferred from San Juan De Dios Hospital to St. Luke’s Medical Center.

Also injured were Mark’s 61-year-old mother Editha and his seven-year-old niece.

The victims were supposed to return home to Lipa City, Batangas after dropping off Mark at the airport.

But while waiting for their ride, they were hit by an SUV driven by Leo Gonzales.

Gonzales, a resident of Brgy. Tayuman, Lobo, Batangas, had also just dropped off a passenger at the airport.

“May buhay pa siyang inutang, pananagutan niya 'yun. Grabe ang ginawa niya, nakapinsala sa pamilya namin,” Balog said.

Mark postponed his flight abroad so he could oversee his daughter's wake and his seriously injured wife.

He also declined to give an interview, choosing instead to be alone and quietly mourn his daughter’s fate.
