MANILA -- The United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) marked a significant milestone on Tuesday, celebrating its Golden Jubilee Gala Night at the Solaire Resort in Parañaque City.

The event commemorated the organization's 50th anniversary and brought together members, fellows, and leaders of the profession.

"It's a very grand celebration," said Catherine Balce-Carunungan, Chancellor of the UAP College of Fellows.

"Looking back on March 26, 1975, the United Architects of the Philippines registered with the Security and Exchange Commission and became the first professional organization accredited by the Professional Regulations Commission — that's the PRC," she added.

"That same year, the UAP established its first eight chapters and held its first national elections. At the moment, we have 210 chapters nationwide and we have 60,000 members."

As part of the weeklong celebration of their golden jubilee, UAP will host an investiture ceremony for 16 new members of their College of Fellows on April 10, according to Balce-Carunungan.

They will also present the prestigious Nilikha Awards to 18 exceptional members.

Meanwhile, former UAP National President Arch. Medeliano Roldan Jr. highlighted a recent legal victory for the organization.

"There is another milestone for us, especially that we received the Supreme Court’s final ruling that only licensed and registered architects are authorized to sign architectural plans," he said.

"We are the only recognized professionals in this field and because of that, we are able to join a lot of recognition here and abroad," added Arch. Dan Lichanco, the chair of the Golden Jubilee Committee. -- Mon Rodelas, ABS-CBN News
