MANILA -- Administration slate Alyansa Para Sa Bagong Pilipinas has postponed the campaign rally originally scheduled on Friday, March 28 -- incidentally, the 80th birthday of detained former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Alyansa's weekly campaign sorties attended by President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. have usually been scheduled on weekends.

Alyansa's Campaign Manager, Navotas Rep. Toby Tiangco, attributed their decision to the beginning of the local campaign period.

"Some Alyansa candidates have been invited to attend local proclamation rallies, which are typically held on Fridays and Saturdays. With the start of the local campaign on March 28, they’ve received multiple invitations they wish to accommodate," Tiangco said.

"In response, we decided to postpone our scheduled rallies to give way to these local events and allow candidates to engage directly with local leaders and communities," he added.

Duterte supporters have been mounting a series of protests here and overseas against the arrest of the former president, who is currently facing a charge for crimes against humanity over his drug war.

The former leader is at the International Criminal Court Detention Center at The Hague in Netherlands.
