Repairs of the Marilao Interchange Bridge will take 2-3 weeks after an over height truck exceeding the vertical clearance rammed into the structure Wednesday morning, the head of the NLEX and SCTEX traffic operations department said Thursday.

Department head Robin Ignacio said authorities are looking to finish repairs on the damaged bridge before Holy Week.

Initial reports said a truck with a height of 4.9 meters rammed into the bridge, which has a vertical clearance of only 4.27 meters.

The force of the impact caused a female passenger of the truck to crash through the windshield and into the street.

The truck driver will face charges of reckless imprudence resulting in damage to property.

The impact also caused 2 girders of the bridge to loosen, which was then struck by another truck past 2 a.m.

Two northbound lanes were closed due to the incident, causing heavy traffic.

Ignacio said authorities failed to flag the first truck for being over height after it avoided the truck lane after passing Karuhatan Toll Plaza .

He said 21 of 102 trucks passing through the area Wednesday were diverted for exceeding the vertical clearance of the bridge.
