MANILA – Vice President Sara Duterte and former presidential spokesperson Harry Roque are seeking to postpone former President Rodrigo Duterte's appearance before the International Criminal Court earlier set at 2 p.m in The Hague (9 p.m. Manila time) on Friday.

The Vice President and Roque, along with Sen. Robin Padilla, visited the ICC Detention Centre within a Dutch prison complex in Scheveningen, on the outskirts of The Hague.

She said if the ICC judges will heed to their request, they plan to personally talk to Duterte.

"We are already complying with all the documents they are asking across. We truly pray and hope that the court will listen for our request to move the initial appearance so we can have time to sit down with the former president so we can discuss what are the ways forward," she said in an interview.

She has called her father's arrest as "state kidnapping", and demanded that he be brought home.

The Palace has rejected her claims, saying Duterte's arrest happened legally with a warrant issued by ICC and enforced through the Interpol.

The Vice President then went to The Hague as seeking to help her father prepare to stand trial for crimes against humanity over the bloody war on drugs that allegedly led to thousand cases of extra-judicial killings.

Sara also thanked their supporters.

"Sa lahat ng ating mga kakabayan na kahapon, no'ng isang araw, ngayon, na patuloy nagpapakita ng kanilang suporta sa dating pangulo. Nakikita po natin 'yung kanilang mga peace rally. Nagpapasalamat tayo na may nagdarasal, marami ang nagdarasal," she said.

She also took a swipe at Marcos Jr. administration, saying that her family is not the Filipinos' problem but rather, the supposed lack of growth in the Philippines.

"Huwag natin kalimutan na ang problema ng bayan ay hindi ang mga Duterte. Ang totoong problema ng bayan kayong lahat nandito kayo nakikipagsapalaran sa ibang bansa dahil walang oportunidad doon sa ating bansa. Patuloy ang kahirapan, patuloy ang kagutuman, patuloy na walang nangyayaring kaunlaran," she claimed.

Roque, who is facing qualified human trafficking charges in the Philippines, said they tapped a British lawyer to join Duterte's legal team.
