Comelec extends application for local absentee voting

MANILA — The Commission on Elections (Comelec ) has extended the application for Local Absentee Voting (LAV) for the 2025 midterm polls.

According to Comelec, it decided to moved the deadline for LAV until March 17 from its original schedule of March 10 due to numerous requests from various government agencies and other stakeholders.  

The commission released on Monday its Resolution No. 11120 specifically for the LAV application extension.

"In light of numerous requests for extensions of the aforementioned deadlines from various government units, offices, agencies, and departments and considering the observance of Holy Week from April 17 to April 20, 2025, the Commission deems it necessary to amend Comelec Resolution No. 11091," the new Comelec Resolution stated.

The Comelec also moved the deadline of the period to verify if the applicants are eligible for the LAV from April 8 to April 11.

Under the LAV, qualified voters like members of the media, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel and members of the Philippine National Police (PNP) who are assigned to perform their election duties are allowed to vote ahead of the scheduled May 12 election.

The Comelec sets the LAV for May 2025 polls from April 28 to 30. 

LAV participants however can only vote senators and party-list groups.
