MANILA -- Rep. Robert Ace Barbers said he has sent a letter to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate on "narco vloggers" allegedly connected to Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations (POGOs).

Barbers, who is also the chairman of the House Committee on Dangerous Drugs, said the NBI has yet to respond to his request but said the bureau's chief has already issued an earlier warning to the said vloggers.

"Nagpahayag naman ang ating director ng NBI and issued a stern warning doon sa mga illegal vloggers kung saan ang ginagawang pagba-vlog ay hindi naman talaga issues kundi paninirang puri na I think ay isang aksyon ito na labag sa ating batas," Barbers said in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo's Story Outlook on Sunday evening.

In his letter to the NBI, the lawmaker said he wants the metadata of the vloggers and the recent activities from their related vlogs, which he claims could be connected or with relations to POGOs.

"Mayroon kasing reklamo ang mga kasamahan dito sa quad-comm na talaga namang the vloggers and these trolls went beyond the limitations ng batas. At tinitingnan naming Mabuti kung ano ba talaga ang dapat gawin dito para mahinto itong mga ganitong klase ng pamamalakad ng mga vloggers na ito," he said.

The lawmaker claimed that the vloggers in question aims to spread misinformation which they can then earn from.

"Hindi naman pwedeng at the expense of the honor and integrity ng tao ay sisiraan mo para kumita ka. Eh labag sa batas 'yan," he said.

He also agreed that not only "narco vloggers" are supposed to face charges but also those used by politicians to spread lies about their competitors.

"Kapag ito'y lumabag provision ng Cybercrime Prevention Act dapat kasuhan 'yan. Whether sino man 'yan. Whether pulitiko 'yan o gumagamit ng platform para makapanirang puri, makasira ng honor at integridad, eh dapat kasuhan 'yan, kahit sino pa 'yan," he said.

Barbers added that they are going to release a report on the progress of the House quad-comm hearings which will hopefully be released before they take a break on December 18, 2024.

When asked on how this would affect the impeachment cases filed in Congress against Vice President Sara Duterte, Barbers said this won't affect its progress since the issues regarding the vloggers does not fall under the issues surrounding the impeachment complaints.

He added that the House Committee on Good Government will also release a report expected to be out before their said holiday break.

Barbers recently brushed off "fake news" linking him and his brother Surigao del Norte Governor Robert Lyndon Barbers to a PDEA drug bust back in November.
