Two children were hit by a taxi, resulting in the death of one and the injury of the other, on Thursday afternoon in Barangay 187, North Caloocan. 

According to local authorities, the taxi was maneuvering along Dahlia corner Cattleya street while the two children, aged 9 and 5, were playing in the middle of the road.  

The taxi driver reportedly asked a young girl to tell the two children to move aside, but they did not move.

"'Yung taxi na 'yun may pi-pickupin na pasahero, dead end po kaya umabante siya. Akala nung driver umalis yung dalawang  bata. Siguro natapakan niya siguro ng maigi 'yung gasolina eh," said Barangay desk officer Robert Espiritu. 

(The taxi was about to pick up a passenger and was moving forward since it's a dead-end street. The driver thought the children had moved out of the way. Perhaps, he accidentally stepped on the accelerator.) 

One child was run over on the thigh, while the other was hit on the chest.

Both children were rushed to the hospital, but the younger child later succumbed to his injuries, while the 9-year-old remains in critical condition. 

The taxi driver is currently in the custody of the Traffic Division of Barangay Bagumbong.
