MANILA (UPDATED) — Authorities seized some P63 million worth of suspected shabu from a woman who arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport from Zambia on Tuesday night, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency said.

The 9.276 kilograms of shabu confiscated from the woman was concealed in her luggage, the PDEA said Wednesday.    

Authorities confiscated the traveler’s mobile phones, travel documents, and identification cards.

She will face charges for importation of dangerous drugs.

In a release, the Philippine National Police Aviation Security Group said its personnel, and those of the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, arrested the 33-year-old suspect after the Bureau of Customs found shabu “hidden in two transparent plastic bags placed inside her luggage's compartment.”

The suspected drugs were discovered during routine x-ray screening, PNP AVSEGROUP said.

The confiscated drugs, estimated to be worth P63.076 million, have been turned over to the NAIA-IADITG Operations Center for documentation.

"As the main gateway to our country, NAIA must remain secure and drug-free. The AVSEGROUP along with other law enforcement agencies and airport authorities will not waver in its duty to protect passengers and uphold airport safety, especially during this festive season", Police BGen Christopher Abrahano, director of PNP AVSGEROUP, said in the statement.
